Protein Rebel

Tim Boote was inspired to set up Protein Rebel during his travels in Africa. Tim, who has an MPhil in wildlife management from the University of Pretoria, had his first taste of insects in 2010 – fried termites which he describes as a “delicious beer snack”. On being made redundant in March 2019, he decided to pursue the consumption of insects as a business idea.

The 12-year-old business is owned by Isabelle Sommeil-Hornby, who worked in the corporate world before deciding to set up a business specialising in something she enjoys doing for a living

The company is ran and owned by Katherine Kershaw who attended the Cheshire & Warrington Growth programme in Spring 2019. With a £3.85m investment of European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) matched by investment by the three partner Institutions, this innovative programme brings together three key business support providers across Cheshire and Warrington to offer businesses access to a variety of services.
